Today we said congratulations and farewell to our Year 13 students. We have not only celebrated our best ever set of A-level results but, more importantly, we have seen almost all students secure the pathway of their choice as a result of the grades they have achieved. Some of our students have secured high quality apprenticeships, others are beginning their careers whilst the vast majority will move onto Higher Education. Of those students, some will remain close to home at Derby University and the University of Nottingham, whilst others are relocating further afield after confirming places at some of the country’s most prestigious universities; Oxford University, Manchester, Leeds, Durham, York, Sheffield, Keele, De Montfort, Sheffield Hallam and Leicester to name a few.
Principal, Scott Doyle, said “Results days are always a special moment in our calendar and it has been a pleasure to celebrate with our students today. There have been a number of articles in the national press about the challenges faced by this cohort of students across the country which makes their achievements this year all the more impressive. They have consistently demonstrated all the attributes required to be successful in further education and the world of work and I wish them the very best in their future endeavours. In our A-level courses 28% of grades achieved were A*or A, whilst in the vocational courses, the average grade was a Distinction+. This is representative of the ability and dedication of both our students and the staff team at the academy who have worked incredibly hard throughout the last 2 years of study to help secure our best ever set of Post 16 results”.
Wendy Coley, Head of Sixth Form, said “I am extremely proud of this cohort of students who have shown great resilience and determination throughout their Post16 education. Over the last two years, they have followed a variety of pathways and we are delighted that this has allowed them to access a range of excellent universities, apprenticeships and employment with local and national companies. It’s great to see them thrive, be happy and move on to the next chapter in their lives and we are confident that they are on course to succeed at degree level and beyond. We would also like to thank parents and staff for their unwavering support and commitment, without which we would not be celebrating this success.”
We wish all of our students the very best as they move into the next phase of their development and we look forward to welcoming them back to the academy as alumni in the near future.
