Dear Families,
I hope this update finds you all in good health and enjoying the warmer weather. I have a short update for you this week after a really positive start to our final half term of the academic year.
Home Testing
Firstly, a reminder that students should continue home testing every Sunday and Wednesday and that any positive tests should be reported to NHS and to school via the covidalert@derbymoor.derby.sch.uk email. On this subject, we are aware that infection rates across the city are on the rise as is the picture nationally. We have continued with our precautions in school and remind you of the importance for young people to limit their contacts with others outside of school and to maintain regular handwashing and the wearing of face coverings etc.
Remote Learning Year 11 and 13
Those students who are hoping to join us in September should complete the transition work set in their chosen subjects next week. This is in preparation for the Sixth Form induction week commencing on the 21st June. Students can access this material via the website and all tasks have been carefully planned to put your child in the strongest position as they commence their Post 16 journey. For those students who are pursuing an alternative pathway there are a range of materials that we would like you to engage with; online courses relating to the world of work, careers support and guidance and resources on healthy independent living.
For students in Year 13 you should continue to complete the tasks that you have previously been assigned which will prepare you for university, the workplace and beyond.
It goes without saying that this is an unusual year, but please encourage your child to utilise their time in the best way possible so that they can maximise on the opportunities that await next academic year.
New Courts
You may have seen from social media that we have had our courts resurfaced over the half term break. Our students have been making the most of the refurbishment at break and lunch and have been superb with regards to keeping them tidy this week. There are a number of further improvements to the environment planned over the summer that we will document in due course.
Year 7 Parents Evening
The Year 7 parents evening is this Wednesday online. Please contact your child’s Year Manager or Progress Leader if you are having any issues with access or need further guidance. We will hold an additional evening on the 7th July for families who were unable to see a member of staff on the designated evening due to oversubscription.
New Director of Inclusion
Our new Assistant Principal and Director of Inclusion, Mr Brown, has started with us at Derby Moor this week. He will take over from Miss McAneny and will be our senior leader for SEND and Inclusion.
I wish you all a safe and sunny weekend.
Scott Doyle
Principal
